I would like to use both blog and skype in our Japanese language classroom next semester.
I am planning to build a connection between our language classrooms and other classrooms either in the U.S. or in Japan by using these tools. If you could provide me any information about article reporting about either skype or skype and blog combined together as language learning tools, it would be greatly appreciated.
When I chose ‘excite blog’ for our class blog project, I chose it because
1) No advertisement sections appear on the screen
2) Width of the posting section is wide

the posting space is very big.
Since we are using blog not only for writing about thier daily life, but also their composition, they normally write more than 1300 characters for each posting. So, if the width of the space for posting is wide, it would be easier and faster for audience to read.
When I see the themes on presentation section on WordPress page, none of them are wide enough for uploading composition.
If anyone knows a background theme which has a very large width for posting, please let me know.
I created two websites for my advanced level Japanese courses last semester at Purdue.

Last semester, students sent their compositions to me via email attachements, and each time I posted onto our class blog sites as the owner of the blog sites.
However, next semester, I would like my students to create their own blog sites and manage the pages by themselves. One thing I am worried about now is that if they have a ‘track back’ section, they will receive so many spams. If my students create their blog pages through WordPress, do you think they will not receive any spams to either comment or trackback sections because the website is for educational settings and not commercial based? Your advice is highly appreciated.
はじめまして。パデュー大学でＴＡとして中・上級の日本語を教えている高宮と申します。今日は、パデュー大学の日本語３年生のクラスにおいて２００７年秋学期に行ったブログプロジェクトについて紹介させていただきます。このプロジェクトでは、『中級の日本語』をメインテキストとして使用し、テキストの各課に設けられた文化トピックに関して、学生がウェブを中心に様々なメディアからソースを探し、それについて意見・考えを書いて、ブログ上に掲載し、同じ中級レベルの３クラスの学生どうしが読んでコメントしあいました。各課の最後の日には、ブログ上でやりとりされたことをさらに膨らませて、クラス内でディスカッションを行いました。このプロジェクトの結果については、２００７年５月のプリンストン大学で行われたペダゴジーワークショップと、桜美林大学で行われた日本語教育学会春季大会で口頭発表し、論文としては２００８年に出版される『魅力ある活動型日本語教育の世界』に執筆の予定です。
来学期はこのブログプロジェクトをさらに発展させ、アメリカのほかの大学の日本語のクラスで学ぶ学生さんや、日本で日本語教育を学ぶ日本人学生、日本の留学生別科で学ぶ留学生の方々などと連携して行っていきたいと思っております。ブログのような非同期メディアだけではなく、スカイプなど同期メディアも併せて活用したいと考えております。もしご興味のある方がいらっしゃいましたら、学生同士の連携はもちろんのこと、１読者としてブログに日本語でコメントを残してくださるだけでも大歓迎です。協働プロジェクトの可能性もあるかと思います。詳細は追ってメールさせていただきますので、takamiya アットマーク purdue.eduまでご連絡ください。よろしくお願いいたします。
