Shared Sessions in OneNote

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:22 pm by admin

a.k.a. OwO: One-note with Others

Encountering OneNote (Microsoft’s organized note-taking environment) on the Workshop lab’s machines, I’m interested in experimenting a little with the Shared Sessions capability on OneNote. It looks like a shared session turns into a type of collaborative whiteboard, sort of like a realtime wiki!

I’ve shared a session on my laptop, and for Friday’s session, it looks like as long as I am online, you might be able to connect with the following steps:

  1. Launch OneNote (on the Start menu, Programs/ Microsoft Office/ OneNote), then on the menu, TOOLS/ Shared Session/ Join Shared Session.
  2. for the Address, enter 128.118.184.17:2375 (updated Saturday afternoon)
  3. for the password, use your imagination (what organization is sponsoring the workshop?) or ask me.

Then feel free to experiment.

If the IP address changes, I’ll post the update as it becomes available. (I have done that.)

Better Language Acquisition through Technology

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:05 pm by admin

With today’s students so comfortable with technology, it makes sense to take advantage of students’ interest to provide opportunities for real communication in the target language.

Realtime communication (chats [text, audio, video], IM, Skype-conferencing), asynchronous tools (blogs, wikis, discussion boards, e-mail), role-playing, gaming, podcasting, etc., all are ripe for pedagogical exploitation.

I am excited about the exchange of ideas and enthusiasm inherent in this type of intense, focused workshop.
